We all have a "fatty" in our family

Its impressive how people look at fat people like if they were aliens, how companies discriminate against "big" people more than for gender, color or race. Being fat means that you most definitely will represent a lot of sick days and the famous "fat people are lazy" Fraze when in most cases professionals who are fat have either become fat by working TOOO much or by working too much and/or by some medical condition.

Sadly the "Civil Rights Act of 1964 was instrumental in preventing discrimination against people of color, it doesn't protect against weight discrimination. The Rehabilitation Act (1973) and Americans With Disabilities Act (1990) offer some protection against discriminating against employees with disabilities, including obesity." (http://www.tree.com/health/obesity-laws.aspx)

Currently there are many programs for discrimination against gender, race, and/or age discrimination yet the only major organism that its working hard day by day on weight discrimination its the Council on Size and Weight Discrimination http://www.cswd.org is working hard day by day to end discrimination against big people. PLEASE HELP THEM WITH THIS CAUSE AND DONATE YOUR TIME AND MONEY TO HELP END DISCRIMINATION AGAINST BIG PEOPLE....

Aisle, Window or Business Class

I used to travel most of the time in exit rows due to the additional leg room, lately I have found out (the hard way) that there´re airlines that forbid that passengers that require a seat belt extender sit on exit rows due to the risk of passengers tripping with the seat belt extender in an emergency. So that brings the question of Aisle, Window or Business Class.....

All of the seating arrangements have hazards for people that are overweight, window seats present the odd scenario that the curvature of the plane can make your travel experience awful, the center sit its a no brainier and the isle seat presents the constant person that hits you while walking on the isle and the carts that can become a nice pain in your hand if you are hit by one of them. So sites like http://www.seatguru.com  become your best allies in selecting the most adequate seat for you in a flight, but most importantly be gentle and nice while doing the check-in and ask the attendant if there are any empty seats that they can accommodate you near by so you can use the comfort of two seats instead of one.

Riu Hotels

During my trips around the world I have encounter many hotel chains that I had no idea they existed but one that impressed me was Riu Hotels, http://www.riu.com this hotel chain counts with more than 100 hotels around the world most of them in an all inclusive setting. Yet I had no idea this chain existed till I traveled to Panama in August and decided to stay in the Riu Plaza Panama Hotel and did a little research and found out about this amassing chain of hotels that its growing day by day to become one of the large players in the hotels industry.

They have one of the most rewarding rewards clubs called riuclass http://www.riuclass.com/ that include free checkout after you become a gold member with just 1500points. After you become a diamond (5000 points) you get room upgrades and many more benefits that are included in the website provided above.

The breakfast buffet in the Panama Plaza compares to the best all inclusive Hotels in the world, so give this upcoming chain a chance and you will not be disappointed.

Rewards Clubs

Not only the hassle of going through check points additional screening and people praying that you don't sit on their side can make you fell like you are not welcome, so there is no better way to tell them (I am a regular client) than becoming part of their rewards clubs, this will get you upgrades and many other benefits that will make your flight experience one that its comfortable as it can be.

Personally I enjoy flying delta since they offer free upgrades to business class on their flights after you have gone up to to Silver in their levels. So my preferred rewards club is SkyMiles. SkyMiles includes the following airlines in their group the following airlines:

http://skymilesoffers.delta.com/skymiles_partners.php

Yet you cannot hope that all destinations be covered by one group so you should subscribe to other rewards clubs. Even do sometimes the airlines included in the following list are part of SkyMiles, One World or Star Alliance I find it that you get better service when you actually have their own airline rewards program than the one from the group even if the miles all add up in the same place. Currently I am a member in the following rewards programs:

AirTran A+ Rewards
American AAdvantage
Delta SkyMiles
Emirates Skwards
Jet Privilege
JetBlue TrueBlue
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
US Airways Dividend Miles
United Mileage Plus
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

But rewards clubs go a little further than airlines so here are a couple recommendations on hotel reward clubs that I am currently a member.

Hilton HHonors
Wyndham by Request
Marriot Rewards
Priority Club
Starwood Preferred
Riu Class
Best Western Gold Crown
Delta Privilege

Rewards clubs can be your solution and help you find a friendly partner on your road.

Discrimination At The Security Point

This is one of the hardest and most stressing experiences you can encounter, as a regular "fat" traveller I know that 80% of the times I pass the check point on an airport I will be re-screened by hand 75% of the time in front of everyone. Not only it makes you feel like a terrorist but it depressing, humiliating and a situation that should be avoided.

I try to explain to the TSA agents that I have to use the regular metal detector since the new X-Ray machines 60% of the time come up with a blurry image it makes me go through the hassle of the hand check yet they don´t believe me and make me go through the procedure. There´re a few fat friendly airports mainly airports like Fort Lauderdale, San Diego, West Palm Beach I have found it to be the easiest ones to move through them while fat. Yet the most horrible experiences at the check point have happen in Puerto Rico, Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles.

The funniest thing is that being a frequent traveler in almost all the airlines I amazingly get the SSSS in my tickets that sometimes helps me pass ahead of really long lines yet it also means that I will be checked for bombs, chemical residues and manually to make sure the plane will not blow up with the huge bombs I can carry in my belly.

Miami its another thing I was told once by a TSA agent that I had to get an X-Ray since I could eat many kilos of cocaine and could fit it inside my belly. Its time that we move ahead of the discrimination against fat people, and all types of discrimination have to be eliminated from the airport.
